And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.Genesis 1:34-25
Our August was filled with abundant joy (a new grandson!) and then some distressful moments that made me say to myself, “Oh boy” (my hubby with cardiac challenges).
One sunny morning I escaped into my favorite woods, sat down on a hill, and waited.
My reward was seeing a doe wander out of the woods into the clearing below my perch. She saw me, paused, stared, and continued calmly on her way.
What is it about nature that helps me continue more calmly on my way?
I think God knew how much we needed nature. Our world is fallen and crumbles more every day. Seeing the planned actions of God’s creation continue reminds me of the order God intended for our world. The wild animals continue moving along the ground, just as he said they would on the fifth day of creation. Whether you believe that was millions of years ago, or about 10,000 years ago – my belief – the foundational order remains unchanged, as the original designer intended.
God said it was good. And it certainly still is.
